How Our Women Leading the Way Community Keeps Growing — Valentina Drofa
It has been about six months since I last sat down to write a letter like this one.
I find it curious how “half a year” doesn't sound like such a long period, yet so much can change during that time. Time enough for markets to shift and for small projects to grow into something much bigger than you could have imagined at the start. Very often, it’s only when you take a moment to pause and look back that you can truly realise how much has happened.
That has certainly been true for Women Leading the Way and the progress we’ve achieved.
Over the past months, our little universe has expanded in ways that continue to surprise me. We've welcomed more inspiring women into the project, published more interviews, expanded our podcast, begun bringing more conversations to YouTube, and reached new countries and communities along the way. Today, Women Leading the Way spans a vast international network of media partnerships and industry events, from Cannes and Paris to Barcelona, Bangkok, Manila, and Toronto. And the list is still growing!
Our recording schedule these days is packed enough that we have to plan it out months in advance — and it’s not simply because we have some kind of abstract content plan with a set number of pieces that we need to produce. No, the reality is much more interesting: there are just that many remarkable women coming to us now, with countless stories waiting to be told.
What touches me the most about all of this is not even the growth itself, but the people behind it, the ones who make it all possible. Practically every week, female professionals, who all have incredibly busy lives of their own, find the time to sit down with us, reflect on their journeys, answer questions, and openly share both their achievements and the challenges they've faced along the way.
Many of them put forward colleagues whose stories they feel also deserve to be heard as much as theirs, while others reach out because they believe getting their experiences out there might help someone else who is going through a similar journey. There’s a genuine desire to participate in what our team has created here.
What has also been especially encouraging is seeing support come not only from women but from men as well. We've received countless introductions and recommendations from male managers, founders, and simply friends who want to shine a spotlight on the formidable women they work side by side with. Seeing that kind of support is a good reminder that building a stronger industry is not the job of any one gender, but rather something we all contribute to together.
Moments like these constantly bring me back to the reason we started Women Leading the Way in the first place. From the very beginning, the whole point of the project wasn’t just about building another media platform or churning out interviews en masse. What we wanted was to create a space where women would feel seen, heard, and encouraged — and where someone reading or listening to our conversations might recognise a part of themselves in the stories being told.
Every interview reminds us that there are many different ways to define “success.” Some women build companies from scratch and change their industry in some notable way, while for others, success means quietly but surely overcoming challenges that no one around them even realised they were facing. Everyone has a different journey, but each one deserves attention and celebration. And all of those experiences have the power to remind someone else among our readers that their own goals are not out of reach, either.
This, to me, is the part that truly matters.
Of course, we are excited to see the project continue to grow. The more we expand, the more we get to meet women from new countries, new communities, and with new perspectives. Inviting speakers from a wider variety of backgrounds ultimately makes every conversation richer than the last.
But growth for its own sake has never been the goal. The greatest reward is watching how the Women Leading the Way community grows alongside the project itself: people supporting one another, sharing ideas, and building connections that may never have happened otherwise.
As long as we continue to inspire women to stand up and speak with confidence about the paths they have walked, this initiative is doing what it’s supposed to. And that’s the impact we care about the most.
So to everyone who has joined us on this journey, thank you — this community exists because of people like you. You are the reason Women Leading the Way continues to grow, and I hope that together we'll keep creating a space where women can inspire each other to tell their stories.
With warmth,
